This is a double sided furoshiki with a Japanese pine ("Matsu" in Japanese) pattern on a navy blue and red background. Pine is a popular symbol of longevity in Japan as the tree can reach ages of 100-1000 years.

The navy blue will surely calm your mood before your bento meal when you sit your bento box on table to unwrap. The red side brings out a sharp contrast, especially when you see a little bit of it in the knot used to tie it.

Great as a gift or even a gift wrap, it can be also be used as a scarf or neckerchief, or even cover items in the house. Convert it into a tissue box cover. And of course also for wrapping bento boxes.

More about the pattern

Isa monyo (Isa pattern) is a pattern dyeing technique handed down since ancient times in Japan. The technique results in innovative. intricate and delicate patterns and is achieved by carving out the patterns on specially prepared paper using a knife or sword. This template paper is then placed over cloth or Japanese paper, and a series of gluing, dyeing and washing steps are taken that finally results in a dyed pattern on the target material. The sharp lines created by carving combined with the soft outline from the glue results in a work that expresses both sharpness and warmth. This furoshiki represents such works from that era in Japan.
