This sponge, specially designed for lacquerware and wooden products, is a collaboration between Aisen, a household goods manufacturer in Wakayama Prefecture, and Yamaga Shikki, a Kishu lacquerware manufacturer also in Wakayama.
This sponge has ultra-fine fiber bristles that target dirt at a level thinner than a human hair, at 0.045mm. It gets into the gaps of invisible irregularities, thoroughly removing dirt that conventional sponges and brushes tend to leave behind, making it easier to keep things clean and less prone to tarnishing.
The oval shape is similar to a magewappa bento box, and designed to be gentle on lacquered items such as lacquer bowls and wooden bento boxes. The shape makes it easy to clean hard to access areas. If you use wooden bento boxes or lacqueware everyday, the way you wash them should be gentle to help maintain their longevity.
